Lake Yamanaka is the largest lake of the five lakes of Mt.Fuji. If you are lucky, you will see an inverted reflection of Mt.Fuji on the surface of the lake. There are many sites richly endowed with nature near the lake. “Oshino Hakkai” was designated as a part of World Heritage site. It is a very popular spot which many foreign tourists visit every year. Oshino is famous as the buckwheat-growing area, let’s try to eat this place’s specialty, “Oshino Soba (buckwheat noodles)”.

1. Spot ranking in Lake Yamanakako and Oshino area
5th. Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park
Hanano Miyako Park is located beside Lake Yamanaka. The whole area is about three hundred thousand square meters and the park has been carpeted with various seasonal flowers. People can enjoy viewing beautiful flowers all year around such as phalaenopsis orchid and cymbidium in the “Kiyosato no Sato” area in the park. The best season is from the middle to the end of August because people can enjoy spectacular view of sunflowers. Approximately twenty-two hundred thousand sunflowers are planted in the free outside area of the park. It is near the second gate.
Opening hours is from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (from April 16th to October 15th), from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (from October 16th to April 15th) It is closed on every Tuesday from December 1st to March 15th.(Exception: Year end and New year holidays) Inside the park, it is divided into two areas (charged or non-charged area), the admission fee of the area is 500 yen/adult, 200 yen/elementary or middle high school student (from April16th to October 15th), 300 yen/adult, 120 yen/elementary or middle high school student (from October 16th to April 15th).
Directions to Hanano Miyako Park, take a round-route bus “Fujikko” at Fujisan station and takes about a half an hour.
4th. Yamanakako “Swan Lake” -Excursion Ship-
Riding excursion ship named “Swan Lake” is a good visiting spot for people of all ages and pets. The number of maximum passengers is 180, and people can enjoy the viewing of Lake Yamanaka while relaxing on their seats. It takes about 25 minutes to go around the lake.
The ticket fee is 1000 yen/adult, 500 yen/child (aged from 6 years to 12 years old) and an infant (aged 5 years old and younger) is free with per an adult. Opening hours is from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. It is closed at 5:30 pm on a specific period. (from May 3rd to May 5th, from July 21st to August 31st).
Directions to Swan Lake, take a bus “Fujiiko” at Fujisan station and get off at Yamanakako Asahi Oka bus stop. It takes about 45 minutes.
3rd. Nagaike Water Park
Nagaike Shinsui Park is located at the north side of Lake Yamanaka where you can enjoy a full view of Mt.Fuji. As mute swans are in the park, many people visit there to take photos of them. People also can enjoy strolling along the walking trail by the lakeside while seeing a view of Mt.Fuji.
This park is known for the spot where you can see “Diamond Fuji” from the middle of November to the beginning of February. It is named after the phenomenon that Mt.Fuji looks like having a shining diamond on its top when the sun overlaps with its summit. The scenery is impressive and if you have a chance to see it, you will be very lucky.
Directions to Nagaike Shinsui Park, take a Gururin Bus at Fuji Yoshida station (Fuji express line) and get off at Nagaike Shinsui Koen Mae bus stop. It takes about 30 minutes.
2nd. Shinobi No Sato Ninja Village
Shinobi No Sato Ninjya Village is a leisure facility near Oshino Hakkai. People can experience Ninjya techniques as if they were Ninjya. Aside from that, people can enjoy strolling in the Japanese garden and having a local food at the restaurant.
At Ninjya Shuriken Dojo, people can experience to throw Ninjya stars.
Restaurant Setugetsu Fuka serves Japanese meals which stick meticulously to ingredients. “Nigirimeshi Shinobi Chazuke (tea on rice)” can be ordered at this restaurant only and it is very popular.
Opening hors is basically from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, but sometimes it’s from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm it depends on the date. Please check it in advance when you visit there.
The admission fee(free-pass) is 1800 yen/adult (middle high school student and over), 1300 yen/child (3 years old and over). Rental Ninjya outfit or Yukata (cotton kimono) is 500 yen, Ninjya attraction fee is 500 yen/adult (middle high school student and over) and 400 yen/child (3 years old and over).
Directions to Shinobi No Sato Ninjya Village, take Fujikyu bus (bounds for Gotenba and Oshino Hakkai) at Fujisan station and get off at Oshino Shinobi no Sato bus stop. It takes about 12 minutes. As the last bus bounds for Fujisan station is 4:35pm, recommend visiting there from the morning.
1st. Oshino Hakkai
Oshino Hakkai is spring water ponds which its source of water originates from subsoil water of Mt.Fuji. It has been designated as a part of World Heritage Site of Mt.Fuji. In Oshino Hakkai, there are many attractions such as a water mill with thatched roof and a row of cherry blossom trees.
The “Hakkai festival” held on every August 8th is also a popular event. It is conducted for praying peace and prosperity of the village and dedicated to the guardian deity of Oshino Hakkai called “Hatchidai Ryuo”. It is freely visiting for 24 hours.
Sokonuke Pond is in Hannoki museum and its opening hours is from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Directions to Oshino Hakkai, take a bus (bounds for Uchino) from the 1st bus stand of Fujisan station and get off at Oshino Hakkai Iriguchi bus stop (if you ride on the bus via Omiyabashi) or Oshino Hakkai bus stop (If you ride on the bus via Zentana). It takes about 20 minutes. Then walk about 5 minutes to get there.
2. Getting to Yamanakako bus stop from Fujisan station
Take a local bus bounds for Fujikyu at Fujisan station and get off at Forest Station Asahigaoka (Asahigaoka Bus Terminal). It takes about 2 minutes to go to Yamanakako lake from bus stop.
If you visit both Lake Yamanaka and Oshino area, recommend getting 2-days pass “Fujikko Go” which is a sightseeing bus covers the area of Fuji Yoshida, Oshino and Lake Yamanaka. It is 1500 yen/adult (middle high school student and over) and 750 yen/child (elementary school student and under). People can purchase the pass at Fujisan station and the sightseeing bus “Fujikko Go”.
