Fuji Five Lakes area is a recommended area for people who want to enjoy Mt. Fuji without climbing it. This area is developed as a tourist resort and attract many visitors from all around the world. Lake Kawaguchi is a beautiful lake that is located at the lowest altitude amongst other lakes. Lake Kawaguchi is famous for its reflection of Mt. Fuji on its water surface. A famous poem “Kage utsusu Fuji no takane ni umorete nokoru mizu naki kawaguchi no umi”is telling about this natural phenomenon.

Its Lake shore is the longest amongst others; visitors can enjoy the scenery while they cycle around it. There are many shops offering rental bicycle services near by the shore.

During spring, there is Lake Kawaguchi cherry blossom festival; during summer, there is Lake Kawaguchi herbal festival. Moreover, there is Fuji Lake Kawaguchi autumn festival; visitors must not miss a special scenery that Mt. Fuji and Japanese maple tree tunnel would create. This area has a great variety of accommodation choices thus it is a suitable sightseeing base for all area around Mt. Fuji.

Lake Kawaguchi is consistently voted as one of the country’s most bike-friendly cities, with a spectacular rides within easy reach. Recently increase in popularity of bike commuting and you can rides in nature with Mt.Fuji.

Oishi Park is a park where people enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji and a lake. The reason why this park is famous would be its 350 meters pathway with seasonal flower display on the both sides. Moreover, people can take photos with a great backdrop of Mt. Fuji. This place also serves as a great resting spot for a long cycling. The best time to visit this place to enjoy the best view of Mt.Fuji would be in the early morning. Another must see site at this park would be the Monument of gathering Mt. Fuji.

This monument is about another 252 Japanese mountains that have nick name of Mt. Fuji such as Mt. Daisen in Tottori prefecture and Mt. Youtei in Hokkaido prefecture. You would be able to feel powerful presence of those mountains by looking at this monument.

The flower display would be in season from April to October but it would be especially gorgeous during Lake Kawaguchi herbal festival; which takes place from the end of June to the beginning of July. Visitors can enjoy a lavender field. It would be also nice to come here during autumn season in October due to Japanese maple trees changing their leaves’ color.

From Kawaguchiko Station, take Kawaguchiko Circuit Bus service and get off Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center. This bus service operates with retro deigned bus. The bus ticket price is 480 yen in One way. A free pass is 1500 yen.

Fuji Sengen Shrine is a part of branches of Asama Shrine. Mt. Fuji area is registered as a World Heritage Site which includes this shrine. This shrine was built to show respect for gods so they would help to subside Mt. Fuji’s volcanic activities.

The three gods who are worshipped here Konohanosakuyimime The goddess of healthy birth, avoiding fire Ninigi no mikoto The god and the husband of Konohanosakuyimime who legendary brought the Three Sacred Treasures (Mirror, Sword and Jewels) to the world. due to their beloved relationship. He is the god of good relationships. The god all mountains and the father of Konohanosakuyimime. He would be always worshipped together with his daughter and her husband.He is also the god of a great family union.

This shrine is located near the Yoshida entrance to climb the Mt. Fuji. It became the centre of Mt. Fuji spiritual worshipping. There are many people who would come here during summer to pray for climbing Mt. Fuji safely. Also, many people would come here praying for finding successful partnerships and relationships.

Legend has it that Konohanosakuyimime was a beautiful goddess and Ninigi no mikoto felt in love with her at first sight. She was a powerful and passionate yet kind goddess to give birth in the fire. She is a water goddess to subside Mt. Fuji’s volcanic activities. This shrine legendary started in 110; when a mythological hero Yamato Takeru paid respect to the god of Mt. Fuji.

In 788, the first shrine was built at the current location and Konohanosakuyimime as their main goodness. The east wing was built by Hōjō Yoshitoki who was the second Hōjō shikken of the Kamakura shogunate and head of the Hōjō clan. In 1561, Takeda Shingen built the current east side of the main building. In 1594, Asano Ujishige built the current west side of the main building. In 1615, Torii Naritsugu built the current main building.

All three parts of the main building are registered as Important Cultural Property; they have an authentic historical vibe. The current worship building was built by people who worshipped this shrine during 18th century; all the detailed work is outstand. Mt. Fuji Torii Gate was designed based on the legendary story of Yamato Takeru. It was renovated in 2014. It is bigger than Itsukushima Floating Torii Gate in Hiroshima Prefecture; it is one of the biggest wooden gates in Japan. Their 1000 years old sacred trees Fuji Taro Cedar and Fuji Fufu Hinoki (Japanese cypress) were hand planted by Hōjō Yoshitoki.

Every year, on the 1st of July, there is Mt. Fuji opening festival; this indicates the beginning of summer climbing season. The festival includes cutting the sacred rope off from the Torii Gate. In the end of August, there is Yoshida’s fire festival; this indicates the end of summer climbing season. This several hundreds years old festival is one of the 3 strange festivals in Japan. The opening hour is 6:00~17:00.

From Kawaguchiko Station, take Fuji express Bus service Destination: Mt. Fuji entrance, the duration would be about 15 min to the bus stop Fuji Sengen Shrine. Or from Kawaguchiko Station, take the World Heritage Loop bus service, the duration is about 50 min to the bus stop Fuji Sengen Shrine.

Lake Kawaguchiko Excursion Boat “Ensoleillé”

Lake Kawaguchi Excursion Boat “Ensoleillé” was designed to offer a similar vibe to Southern European Lake cruise. The name of the boat is French word Ensoleillé means sunny in English. Passengers are able to eat food inside the boat, an ice ream is one of the popular items.

The duration is about 20 min. There are three different sections inside the boat. One the first floor, there are tables and sofas to relax and enjoy the ride. On the second floor, passengers can enjoy the 360 degree panoramic view including Mt. Fuji. On the back of the first floor, there is a section with a roof: this area is an access free area for wheelchair users. Pets are allowed on this boat.

There is a bell designated for lovers; it’s very popular amongst couples. Open all year around Normal opening hours. Middle of March ~ Middle of July、end of August ~ middle of November is 9:00~16:30 (every hour depart at 00 and 30). The ticket price is 930 yen for an adult.470 yen for a child. Discount for users of other Fujikyu group attractions including ~ Lake Kawaguchi ~ Mt. Fuji Panorama Ropeway. 750 yen for an adult, 380 yen for a child. 2nd. Arakurayama Sengen Park

When visitors finish climbing the 400 steps of Blooming Princess Stairs, they would see the most famous Arakura Mountain. The Vermilion five-storied pagoda chastity tower was built in 1963. Arakurayama Sengen Park was on the cover of Lonely Planet as well as the Michelin Guide to represent Japan, that made this park very famous.

To reach the five-storied pagoda, visitors have to walk about 20 min. Average stay 1-2 hours. This place offers a great scenery for taking photos that represent Japan; cherry blossom in spring, Mt. Fuji and the five-storied pagoda can be in one frame. This park give a great impression to all visitors; 650 cherry trees and Mt. Fuji would create an unforgettable scenery.

Arakurayama Sengen Park is the best spot in Fuji Five Lakes area, Mt. Fuji and the five-storied pagoda produce an authentic Nippon scenery. There are many information signs around the park, which makes this park valuable to visit. Cherry blossom festival is famous in here.

When the park’s 650 cherry trees are in full blossom, Arakurayama Sengen Park cherry blossom festival is taking place. It would be from the beginning of April to the middle of April.

※During the festival, there might be food stalls and stage events. The autumn leaves change season would be also nice to time to visit this park. The both sides of the road from Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine Torii Gate to the chastity tower, there are many trees with leaves that produce gorgeous colour gradations.

From Kawaguchiko Station, take the World Heritage Loop bus service, get off at the chastity tower entrance (Arakurayama Sengen Park ) then walk about 2 min.

The famous story Kachi-Kachi Mountain by Osamu Dazai, was written based on this Mt. Tenjo. The Ropeway service would run about 5 -10 min a part between Lake kawaguchi to Tenjoyama Park. The duration of the ropeway service would be about 3 min. During the ride, the passengers can enjoy the panoramic view including Mt. Fuji, Lake kawaguchi, alpine plants, autumn leaves colour change and French hydrangea.

The gondola is designed as if Kago (Japanese old transport life), there are rabbits’ and raccoon dogs’ decorations everywhere at this park. (animals from the story)

Inside the gondola, Kachi-Kachi Mountain story is introduced in Japanese and English. At the top of the mountain, there is a rabbit shrine for people who would like to pray for their safety and healthy legs. People can do so by touching the Dreamy Rabbit statue on the right hand side for getting wisdom; by touching Mt. Fuji looking rabbit for healthy legs.

Tenjo Bell is located at the top, some believe that this bell has a special power; if people ring the bell while looking at Mt. Fuji, they would be healthy. If people change their way to ring the bell, they would have happy love life.

In autumn, leaves color change would be nice to look from here. Visitors can see the great breathtaking view of autumn leaves color change. Everyone would want to take pictures from this view. There is a walking path for hiking; this path would be nice to walk down to the bottom while people enjoy the natural sceneries. And Kawaguchiko Winter Fireworks is also famous. Visitors can enjoy the nice view from the gondola as well as fireworks display.

Price is 800 yen for an adult-return, 400 yen for a child-return. There is a fee for a pet. There is a combination ticket for people who would take the excursion boat ride, the bus service and many more. Opening time is apart from winter time 9:00~17:20, Winter time is 9:30~16:40.
