Day Trip to Zaimokuza – Omachi from Tokyo. Omachi and Zaimokuza which is rooted lumber merchants ’group are the placeｓ where flourished as the center of economy in Kamakura era (12th-13rd century). The peaceful area, where local people taking a walk can be seen. There are fashionable shops and restaurants, and many people visit every summer. The must-see spot is Zaimokuza Coast. Many people enjoy surfing and swimming in the sea, also you can see a lot of shops. The most famous event is Kamakura Firework Display which is taken place every July. That is very beautiful, and we recommend to go on a date as well.

Cafe MERCI CAMP is an excellently located café-restaurant where you can see Zaimokuza Beach in front of it and also you can see Zushi Marina on your left. At Cafe MERCI CAMP you can relax at smoothie and coffee stand and enjoy local fresh seafood and vegetables, surrounding small bonfire, which is called “IRORI French, RO-BATA restaurant”.
In addition, there is a private room where you can enjoy luxury camping and Grand Ping Whose capacity is up to 10 people. ( but you can’t lodge there. )
The ocean-view terrace. there is a BBQ grill, and there are island kitchen, living room, terrace, bathroom, shower, cooking tools and karaoke; all clean, and Wi-Fi is available.
The recommendation is Zaimokuza Jerk Chicken that is juicy chicken dipped in original seasonings made from 9 kinds of spice and flavoring vegetables and spare-lib, or seafood which featured local fish.
Location it very assessable, 20minn walk from Kamakura station or 15 min walk from Enoden Line Wadazuka station. The opening hour is 11am-10pm. Very suitable for lunch, café and dinner.
4th. Kikori Shokudo
At this restaurant by the sea, you can enjoy a set meal, alcohol and café. From large terrace, you can see Zushi Marina on your left and Izu Island at center, also Inamuragasaki on your right, and behind that Izu Peninsula can be seen. Inside of restaurant, there are ocean-view counter sheets relaxed table sheets, you can relax in the woody space like the name of “Kikori”.
At lunch and dinner time, you can choose a variety of set- meal featured local flesh vegetable seafood. At café time, there are sweets like Baumkuchen, a lot of à‐la‐carte menus. and smoked dish, so you can visit as many occasion And at the open air terrace where you can see Kamakura sea. You can enjoy BBQ comfortable.
All the flesh foods are prepared for you, all you need is broiling and eating at the terrace under a sunshade. It is very comfortable.
The location is the 20min walk from JR / Enoden Kamakura station, take Keikyu Bus No.40 or 41 for 7min getting off at Zaimokuza, and 2 min walk. There is a parking lot. The opening hour is 11am-3pm for lunch, 3pm-5pm for café and 5pm-10pm for dinner and alcohol. They have irregular holidays, so check Instagram or call the restaurant.
3rd Komyo-ji Temple
Komyoji temple, one of the main temple of Judo-shu Buddism was built in 1243. When you get off the bus at Komyoji bus stop, Zaimokuza coast surrounds you. Though a path and entrance gate, there is a huge main gate saying “天照山”. This gate is much bigger than normal temples in Japan. Shaka Sanson(釈迦三尊) and 16 Rakans(羅漢) are enshrined in the gate upstairs.
The seated statue of Amida Nyorai (阿弥陀如来坐像) whose hands form the upper grade-lower birth mudra (hand gesture) is the principal image of this temple was created in the early 13th century. This statue is enshrined in the main hall opened to visitors. From a hill the back of the temple, a great panorama of Yuigahama behind the roof of Kyomoji temple. In the ground, they have Day Landscape style garden. Many spots to see there.
Komyoji is famous for the beauty of cherry blossom in spring and flowers of lotus in summer. Especially lotus flowers, Turugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Komyoji are selected the most beautiful lotus gardens in Japan. The pond in the garden is filled with Ancient Lotus which germinated from 2000-year-old seed. In summer, Tea Ceremony seeing lotus flower is taken place.
To be there, taking the bus for Zuhi“小坪経由逗子駅(Zushi station via Kotubo )” at bus stop No.7 at JR Kamakura station. It takes 10 min, and get off at Komyoji Temple (光明寺前). A parking lot is available. Opening hour is 6am – 5pm (10/15 – 3/31 7am – 4pm). No visitor fee required.
2nd Zaimokuza Beach
Zaimokuza beach is around shallow off the shore. It is the longest beach in Kamakura, and it has many facilities. Walking to the south along the main street from Kamakura station, you can see the beach at the end of the street. The beach is called separately by the river. Facing to the sea, Yuigahama beach is on your left, and the other is Zaimokuza beach. In summer the beach is full of people enjoy on the beach, but Zaikokuza beach is less crowded and comfortable.
You can see beautiful contrast between the sky and sea in early morning and evening the time when it changes night to day at Zaimokuza beach. The beauty can make you relax. The beach is opened to bathers in July, beach huts open until the end of August. Kamakura Firework Display is a very popular event, you can enjoy fireworks above the sea. The name of “Zaimokuza” is taken from lumber merchants’ group which existed in the 12th century. (“Zaimoku” means lumber, and “Za” means merchants’ group.) There was a market where lumber gathered from all over Japan because the Japanese capital city was Kamakura at that time. There are remains of the oldest Harbour in Japan is along the beach.
The access from Kamakura station is to take the bus for Zushi“鎌40”, and getting off at Zaimokuza(材木座) or Komyoji Temple(光明寺). It takes about 10 min.
1st ZAIMOKU the TERRACE
Zaimokuza Terrace is along Route 134, across the Zaimokuza Beach. In the open air space which is created by the concept “To enjoy a beach life whole the year”, there are Restaurants surf club, Yoga studio. From morning to sunset, you can enjoy the relaxed time there.
At the surf club, 24-hour surfboard locker is available, and level-based surfing, SUP and body-board lessons are provided. At the studio, yoga and belly dance lessons with participants seeing the sea are available. You should try.
To be there, taking bus for“新逗子駅(Shin-Zushi station )”whose route number is “鎌40”, taking the bus for ”小坪(Kotsubo)”whose rote number is “鎌41”at bus stop No.7 at East gate of JR Kamakura station, and 4-min walk after getting off at Rinkai Gakuen (臨海学園), or 6-min walk after getting off at Zaimokuza (材木座).
2. Getting to Zaimokuza – Omachi from Kamakura station
From Kamakura station, take the bus to Zushi which has signed “鎌40” at the bus stop in front of bus rotary. The fare is ￥190. PASMO and SUICA are available. Then get off at Zaimokuza(材木座) or Koumyoji(光明寺). It takes 10min.
