Fukuroda, Daigo, Hitachiota, are representative tourist areas of Ibaraki, including the famous “Fukuroda waterfall”, the famous “Tsukimachi waterfall” which is told the power spot, and the “Ryujin Otsuribashi Bridge” that you can enjoy the spectaculer scenery and so on. In addition, you can enjoy many activities here such as “Sekisho hot spring” spending your time relax and taking ayu, sweetfish by hand at “Okukuji Daigo Kanko Yana”.

5th. Sekisho Hot Spring

Sekisho hot spring is a hot spring where you can go there by a day trip that you can relax and enjoy while feeling the rich nature of Fukuroda. Each season with fresh green in Spring, cool breezes across the river in Summer, autumnal leaves as if burning in Autumn, and steam rising steadily in Winter gives you a calm moment. Spring quality is featured for salinity which promotes you a blood flow so that it is good for fatigue recovery, and for iron which is considered good for menopausal disorder.

 
Also, there are the large hall where you can relax and heal your heart with the murmur of a stream, and a restaurant where you can taste Okuji’s regional cuisine using selected ingredients.
 
It opens from 9:30am to 8pm on weekdays and 9: 30am to 9pm on weekends and holidays. It closes on the last Thursday (in the case of a holiday, it closes on Thursday of the previous week in stead). For the fee, Adults: 700 yen on weekdays, 1,000 yen on weekends and holidays, 500 yen after 4pm, children: 350 yen on weekdays, 500 yen on weekends and holidays, 250 yen after 4pm. *Free charge for 3 years old and under.

4th. Tsukimachi Waterfall

Tsukimachi waterfall flows down to three lines of height 17 m and width 12 m in Daigo-cho, Kuji-gun, Ibaraki. It is usually two lines like a couple, but a child waterfall appears and becomes a parent-child waterfall when the amount of water increases. Also, as you can enter the back of the waterfall without getting wet by the waterfall, it has nicknames such as “reverse side waterfall” and “under-water waterfall” and a lot of people enjoy the minus ion.
 
Moreover, ladies gathered up this place on the 23rd night to see the moon to pray easy birth and child care so it was called “moon waiting waterfall” and Tainai Kannon is enshrined. It shows you various expressions depending on the season, such bright autumn leaves color the waterfall in autumn, and in winter it shows a beautiful icefall and attracts you a lot.

Access

For the access, take JR Suigun line at Fukuroda Station and get off at Shimonomiya station, then take a walk for about 20 minutes.

3rd. Okukuji Daigo Kanko Yana

“Yana” is a mechanism to stop water flow by arranging trees and bamboo and catch the fish, and is an effective fishing method for sweetfish that falls down the river to lay their eggs in Autumn. At “Okukuji Daigo sightseeing Yana” of Kujigawa river, you can enjoy sweetfish grabbing, playing around river, and barbecue in rich nature.
 
In addition, there is a restaurant where serves you sweetfish dishes such as salt frying sweetfish and sweetfish rice. It opens from 5/1 (Tuesday) to 5/6 (Sunday), 6/1 (Friday) to 7/20 (Friday), 7/21 (Sat) to 8/31 (Friday), 9/1 (Sat) to 10/31 (Wed) and opens 10am to 4pm. The entrance fee is free.

Access

For the access, take JR Suigun line at Fukuroda Station and get off at Hitachi Daigo station and take a walk for about 10 minutes. *FYI, you can’t bring back the fish you grabbed at “Yana”.

2nd. Ryujin Otsuribashi

Ryujin Otsuribashi Bridge is 100m height from the dam lake surface and 375m long in total and is one of the largest in Japan as for pedestrian, and a steel bridge hanging over Ryujinkyo which is also raised as one of the best 100 sceneries of Ibaraki.
 
It was opened in 1994 and renewed in 2001 and was renovated to the present vivid blue. From the bridge, you can see the large panoramic view of Mt.Yamizo and Abukuma mountains and Suifu city scenery, and you will be thrilled with the lake surface of the Ryujin Dam by looking down from the acrylic transparent plate set in the middle of the bridge.

 
It is also recommended to visit along with the seasonal events such as “Koinobori Festival”, “Summer Festival” and “Autumn Festival”. It opens from 8:30am to 5pm (until 4:40pm for the reception), entrance fee is 310 yen for adults, 210 yen for kids.

For the access, take JR Suigun line at the Fukuroda station and get off at Hitachiota station. Then, take a bus for 45 minutes and get off at Ryujin Otsuribashi Bridge and walk for about 20 minutes.

1st. Fukuroda Falls

Fukuroda Waterfall is 120m height and 73m width and can be counted as one of the three best Japanese waterfalls in Japan. You can see four seasons of its appearance such as green of the sprouting trees in Spring, seeking for the cool in Summer, the colorful autumn leaves make up the waterfalls in Autumn, and the waterfall froze in severe cold in Winter.
 
About the appearance of these four seasons, it has been told that Saigyo buddhist monk visited this place in Heian era, and said that “If you do not visit every four seasons you will not be able to taste the true elegance”. Fukuroda waterfall is selected as a sacred place for lovers in 2015 and you can find the monuments of a lover’s sacred place with a motif of oshidori which is a bird of Daigo town in the observation tunnel.
 

It opens from 8am to 6pm from May to October and from 9am to 5pm from November to April. The entrance fee is 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for kids.

For the access, take a walk for about 42 minutes from Fukuroda station or take a taxi for about 7 ~ 10 minutes.

2. Getting to Fukuroda Station from Tokyo

From Tokyo station, a traveller can take Hitachi No15 to Mito station, then transfer to JR Suigun Line to Fukuroda Station. Duration is about 2 hours 30 min. Ticket Price is 4,570 yen.
Or take Yamanote Line to Ueno station, then transfer to JR Joban Line to Mito station, then take JR Suigun Line to Fukuroda Station. Duration is about 4 hours. Ticket price is 3,020 yen.
