Yorokeikoku (Yoro Valley) is a river valley between mountains running from Otaki town, Isumi area in Chiba prefecture to Ichihara city where azaleas and wisterias are in full bloom in spring and autumn leaves are beautiful in fall. You should visit “Awamata Falls” and “Syusse Kannon” and “Yoro Valley Onsenkyo”, the best hot spring resort in Chiba. You can also enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking and barbecue.

1. Spot Ranking in Yōrō Keikoku – Otaki area

5th. Kanko-honjin Tourist center

Visit here for local information and souvenirs. Jinrikisha rickshaw ride and bicycle rental also available. One month advance reservation preferable for the rickshaw ride. Departing from Otaki Kanko-honjin, you can go through the town scape of Ko-edo, small Edo of Boso area including Jokamachidori, Castle town street about an hour. 3,000 yen per ride. Please make your reservation one month prior to your ride at Kanko-honjin Tourist Center (0470-80-1146).

●Access by Train:
Keiyo Line limited express ‘Wakashio’ departs from Tokyo station’s underground platform and arrives at Sotobo Line Ohara station without transfer (about 70 minutes). Transfer at Ohara to Isumi Railway which takes you to Otaki Station (about 30 minutes).

JR Uchibo line Kaisoku express departs from Tokyo station and arrives at Goi station in 60 minutes. Transfer there to Kominato Railway to Kazusa-nakano station. Then transfer again to Isumi-tetsudo railway which takes you to Otaki Station (about 30 minutes).

●Access by Bus:
Currently 3 bus companies Keisei, Kamogawa Nitto and Kominato operate the bus line between Hamamatsucho terminal, Tokyo and Otaki. Some buses are for Awa Kominao. Others are for Onjuku. Stops are Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit side, Kisarazu Kaneda Bus Terminal and Ichihara Tsurumai Bus Terminal. There are six roundtrips every day. 4th. Mt. Daifuku

Mt. Daifuku, at 285 m elevation, is the tallest mountain in Ichihara city. So far, 112 species of trees, 272 species of plants and 44 species of ferns have been recorded. This is a characteristic laurel forest that has been protected from ancient times. The view from the observation deck at the mountain peak is outstanding, and the forest is enjoyed by citizens for hiking.

Access

It is approximately 30 minutes from zone Odo way city Hara Tsurumai IC. There is a parking at the tourist information center in front of Yoro Valley Station. In addition, there is a parking lot in the middle of Mt. Daifukuyama, about a 15-minute drive from Yoro Valley Station. You have better rent a car.

3rd. Otaki Castle

The Otaki Castle Branch of Natural History Museum and Institute is a unique history museum with a castle tower structure. The keep is located at the former site of Honmaru (donjon) of Kazusa Otaki Castle, whose first owner is Honda Tadakatsu, one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Tokugawa. This museum has two functions: one is as a museum specialized in weapons and armors, castles and samurai society from medieval times to early modern times, the other is as a local museum introducing cultural properties in south of Chiba. It holds a special exhibition every fall, displaying various documents related to both inside and outside of Chiba. It also holds a history lecture, aiming to draw interest of locals in history of their hometown and to encourage lifelong learning.

Hours is 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The admission fee is \200 for an adult, \100 for a high school and a university student and free for an elementary and a middle school student, 65 years old and older and those with a diability certificate(except for a special exhibition).

To go to Otaki Castle, it is a 15-minute walk from Isumi Railway Line Otaki Station.

2nd. Nakase Yuhodo Promenade

Nakase boardwalk starting from the border of Otaki Town and Ichihara City of Yoro River. Because Yoro hot spring town extends to the side immediately after, it is good for sightseeing walk of accommodation in Otaki-cho.

If you walk along the Yoro River along the natural promenade, you will refresh yourself and mind from the heart! Along the way, there is also the Kōbundō-ato, one of the famous spot in Yoro Valley. Kōbundō-ato changed the stream of the Yuuki River, which is a tributary of the Yoro River, and dug a tunnel in the rocky mountain to secure farmland in the late Edo period. The “trace” is because the tunnel suddenly collapsed in 1959, and it became a landscape like dividing the rock into two.

Access

About 70 minutes from Tokyo Station (underground Keiba home) by special express Wakashio train and get off at Ohara Station, transfer to Isumi Railway for about 50 minutes and get off at Kamiso Nakano Station
From Tokyo Station, take the Uchibo Line for about 60 minutes and get off at Goi Station and transfer to the Kobuchi Railway for about 70 minutes and get off at Kamiso Nakano Station.
A search bus runs from Kamiso Nakano Station to Yoro Valley (to Shibamata Falls). About 2 km to the Ojikawa Crossroad Stop, Ichihara (Konji (Kotsuji) / Yoro Onsen Town)

1st. Yoro Valley

Awamata Falls is a huge waterfall symbolizing Yoro Valley whose length is 100 meters long and whose width and height is 30 meters. The flow of water streaming down onto the bare rocks is a mystic beauty. It is full of lush green plants in spring and summer and leaves turn to red in fall, being one of the best places for autumn leaves in Chiba. As there is a flat pedestrian trail along Yoro river into which Awamata Falls streams, you can enjoy hiking there.

Access

To go to Awamata Falls, take Isumi Railway Line from Otaki Station, change to Kominato Railway Line at Kazusa Nakano Station and get off at Yoro Keikoku Station. Take a bus bound for Awamata/Goriyaku no Yu and get off at Awamata/Goriyaku no Yu.

2. Getting to Yōrō Keikoku – Otaki (Otaki station) from Tokyo

From Tokyo station, take Express Wakashio No 5 towardsIchikawashiohama Station and get off at Ōhara Station, transfer to Isumi Line towards Kazusa-Nakano and get off at Otaki Station. The duration is 2hours 20min . The price is 3,640 yen.
